March 2025 - Lutheran South Hockey Champs!
The LuSo hockey team took home the Gateway Hockey League Championship at Affton Ice Rink with a 4-1 win over Chaminade.
In the heart of a crisp winter rink, under the bright lights of what could have been just another opening chapter, the Lutheran South hockey program etched its name into the record books with a statement victory that no one will soon forget.
This was the inaugural season for the new club, a fresh start, unproven talent, big dreams, and the daunting task of facing Chaminade, a powerhouse boasting the league's most feared offense. Most expected a learning experience. What they got instead was pure magic.
The tone was set early when incoming freshman Mason Howard took the ice as he owned it. With the puck on his stick and the crowd holding its breath, he unleashed a rocket that clanged bar down, top shelf, pure filth—and the red light flashed. The scoreboard read 1-0, Lutheran South, and the new era had officially begun.
But Howard was just the opening act. Freshman phenom Braylin Feager and his brother, 7th grader Kipton Feager, took over the offensive zone like veterans, dominating puck battles, creating chances, and making defenders look helpless. Every shift felt electric. Feager was everywhere, driving the play and proving that youth doesn't mean inexperience.
On the blue line, the story got even better. Sophomore and Captain of the team, Parker Yaeger and his defensive partner, freshman Kanen Peters, formed an impenetrable wall. Chaminade's high-octane attack, league-leading in goals all season, crashed against them again and again... and came away empty-handed. Shot after shot was blocked, passes intercepted, and rushes shut down. The duo played with the poise of seniors, turning potential highlight-reel goals into frustrated turnovers.
As the clock wound down and Chaminade pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, Lutheran South smelled blood. Freshman Zach Meyer pounced on the loose puck, fired into the empty net.. The final horn sounded. The scoreboard told the tale: Lutheran South victorious.
The bench erupted. Gloves flew. Sticks raised high. A brand-new program had just announced its arrival in the loudest way possible.
